COMMUNITY ON THE RISE

As we seek to undertake our mission  to Build and Community that Impacts the World and Grows God's Kingdom, we are considering how to effectively build a bridge into our community.  One possible way to do this would be to provide a facility that meets the community's needs.  The "Community of the Rise" is working to find the best way to do that.  One possible solution would be to provide a new building.

Community on the Rise

Building Project Feasibility Study

February Update

The Steering Committee met with the architect earlier this month to review and refine the plans, sections and elevations.  The architect is now refining the plans and layouts and is preparing three dimensional sketches to help us better understand what the new building might look like

We met with the Shire Planner in December and received some helpful comments and guidance, all of which has been incorporated by the architect into the building plans, elevations and cost estimates.

Capital cost estimates have now been prepared.  These are being used in the  business plan, which is expected to be complete some time next month.  We are still on target to complete the Feasibility Study which will include three dimensional drawings of the proposed structure as well as a Concept Plan and Business Plan for presentation to the church by next March.

December Update

Over the past six weeks, the Steering Committee has met with the architect four times to review and refine the function analysis, relationship diagrams, concept diagrams and concept models.

The architect is now preparing descriptive plans, sections and elevations.  Some further revisions requested by the Steering Committee are currently being incorporated.  These documents will be made available to church members for review when they are completed.

The descriptive plans, sections and elevations will be used to prepare cost estimates which will be used in preparation of a business plan, and also will be the basis of a meeting with the Shire.  It is important to recognise that these descriptive plans, sections and elevations are still very preliminary and we can expect that they will be significantly changed before the feasibility process is completed.

We are still on target to complete the Feasibility Study which will include a Concept Plan and Business Plan for presentation to the church by next March.

October Update
Following the discussions and general meeting on 17 September and at the Annual General Meeting on 20 September, we have selected an architect (Site Architectural Studio) to prepare a conceptual design and assist in preparation of a business plan for a facility to be our “bridge into the community” to support our goal of transforming our community for Christ.
Ian Sigsworth and Peter Goodall met with the architect twice earlier this month and the Steering Committee met with him on Wednesday 21st October to discuss his considerations.
The architect presented a “schedule of accommodation” which lists the types of areas and rooms that would be needed to provide for the types of activities and uses listed in the Needs Analysis and the Consultation Report.  He then presented relationship diagrams, a site analysis diagram and some basic concept diagrams and a basic concept model. A copy of the site analysis is available for viewing at the church.
The members of the Steering Committee are now prayerfully considering this information and will provide feedback to the architect over the next two weeks.
We hope to complete the Feasibility Study by next March with a Concept Plan and Business Plan for presentation for approval by the congregation.

At the church Annual General Meeting, we presented status reports on the current progress.    The attached are the reports that were presented as well as a status report that was presented at a general meeting on 17 September.

Feasibility Study – Status Report

1 June 2009

The current phase of the project is the feasibility study.  A key part of that study has been to receive comments, questions and advice from the people of the church.  The following list presents those comments, questions and advice and our responses to them.

The next part of the feasibility study is to conduct a “Needs Analysis”.

We will commence that Needs Analysis starting the second week of June.  This process will be facilitated by an independent professional advisor.

The Needs Analysis will involve discussions within the church and with the wider community to determine what (if anything) needs to be done to contribute to the Kalamunda Church of Christ’s mission of:

“Building a Community that

Impacts the World and

Grows God’s Kingdom”

and our vision of:

Kalamunda Church of Christ

is an “irresistible” Christian Community

where people become fully devoted

Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The conclusion of the Needs Analysis will be to determine whether or not we need to build a new facility and if so, how it will look.
